Experience
The sauna is usually open Friday to Sunday, from 9am-7:20pm, however, there are weekends when we’re unable to open due to high tides. Our unique location right on The Warren Beach means spring tides are too high for us to operate safely. To counter this, we sometimes open on weekdays during neap tides (the lowest tides of the month) in addition to our usual weekends.
The dates that are available to book in our calendar are those where the tide is low enough for us to open safely. Please check our calendar on the Book page (https://www.sawnaporthpoeth.com/book)for the most up-to-date availability. Bookings open 4 weeks in advance, so plan ahead to secure your preferred session.
The sauna has step access with a handrail on one side and a handle on the other.
As space is limited, we recommend keeping personal belongings to a minimum.
Please bring:
• Swimwear (without metal fastenings).
• A water bottle to stay hydrated.
• Two towels – one to sit on inside the sauna and another to dry off with afterwards.
• Changing robe - for easy changing before and after your session, and to extend your time in the sauna.
• Minimal belongings - due to limited space in the changing rooms, please only bring the essentials for your session. (We recommend leaving jewellery at home too).
• Suitable footwear - flip flops / sandals are recommended for easy changing. Please leave all footwear outside / in the changing room.
During the colder months, we suggest bringing warm, loose-fitting clothing to change into after your session for extra comfort.
As space is limited, we recommend bringing only essential personal items.
You can leave your belongings in the changing area at your own risk. While there are no lockers, hooks are available for hanging items, and open storage cubes are provided for shoes. Any belongings that do not fit in the changing area will need to be left outside. We also recommend leaving jewellery at home, as it cannot be worn in the sauna due to the risk of heating up and potentially burning the skin.
Sawna Porth Poeth cannot be held responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged belongings.
You'll find a small changing area separated from the sauna by a glass door, offering privacy and acting as a heat barrier for the sauna. This space also provides an area to leave minimal belongings and is an office for the member of staff.
Please note that all our experiences include time for changing. If you wish to use the changing area towards the end of your session, kindly be mindful of the next booking and do so within your allocated time slot.
While the changing area is available for you to change into your swimwear and store your belongings, it is not a private changing room—rather, it provides shelter from the elements. Many guests opt to arrive already changed.
At the sauna, you will have access to cold drinking water and a cold shower, and you are welcome to refill your water bottle at any time. Please note that hot showers are not available unless you are a resident of The Warren, in which case you can access their gym and spa facilities near the car park.
Toilets are available just a few steps away at The Sand Bar, where you can also purchase drinks and food before or after your sauna session. We generally recommend using the sauna after a light snack and avoiding sessions on an empty or overly full stomach. We also advise refraining from alcohol before or after your sauna. For safety reasons, we reserve the right to refuse admission to anyone who is intoxicated.
Please arrive at the sauna trailer no more than 5 minutes before the start of your session. Changing time is included in your booking, so arriving late will reduce the length of your experience. We allow time between sessions for cleaning and preparing the sauna for your arrival. If you arrive earlier, feel free to enjoy the surroundings, take a short stroll, or get a drink/snack at The Sand Bar.
We recommend arriving ready to enter the sauna at your start time. For the best experience, follow this suggested schedule:
50-Minute Session:
• Optional: Cold shower, plunge, or sea dip before entering (see safety guidance below)
• 12-15 minutes in the sauna
• 5 minutes cooling down (cold plunge, cold shower, or fresh air)
• 10-12 minutes in the sauna
• 5 minutes cooling down
• 8-10 minutes in the sauna
• 5 minutes cooling down and getting changed
80-Minute Session:
• Optional: Cold shower, plunge, or sea dip before entering
• 15 minutes in the sauna
• 5-10 minutes cooling down
• 15 minutes in the sauna
• 5-10 minutes cooling down
• 15 minutes in the sauna
• 5-10 minutes cooling down
• Final 10 minutes in the sauna
• 5 minutes cooling down and getting changed
Listen to your body and take breaks as needed. If you're new to saunas, start with shorter sessions and gradually increase your time.
Health & Safety Advice
Sauna use and cold exposure may not be suitable for individuals with certain health conditions, including but not limited to: heart conditions, high blood pressure, pregnancy, respiratory conditions, and other medical issues. It is your responsibility to consult with a qualified medical professional before using the sauna facilities.
If you choose to immerse yourself in cold water or use the hose, do so gradually to allow your body to adjust. We recommend starting by rinsing your legs, then pouring water over your arms and shoulders before going for a full dip or rinse. Moving too quickly from heat to cold can be dangerous.
All individuals entering the sea do so at their own risk. It is your responsibility to assess the weather and sea conditions, to ensure that you are a capable swimmer and can handle being exposed to the cold temperatures and varying conditions of the sea. Be aware there is no lifeguard on duty on The Warren beach or at Sawna Porth Poeth.
The following sauna etiquette must be adhered to at all times:
• Swimwear must be worn at all times.
• Wash your feet using the provided bucket before entering the sauna.
• Sit on a towel while inside the sauna.
• Limit your time inside the sauna to no more than 15 minutes at a time (we recommend 5-15 minutes depending on experience)
• Respect other sauna users at all times.
• Check with other sauna users before pouring water onto the stove.
• When pouring water onto the sauna heater rocks, do this gently from the back of the rocks to the front, to avoid getting burned by the steam. Use the ladle provided for this, do not ‘dump’ water on the rocks.
• Use only the provided ‘sauna water’ to pour onto the stove.
• Ensure you change within your booked time slot if using the changing area.

Health and Medical Conditions

Swimwear is compulsory for all customers - nudity is not permitted in the sauna. We also ask that every customer sits on a towel at all times in the sauna.
We ensure the sauna is thoroughly cleaned at the beginning and end of each day, as well as between sessions, so every guest enjoys a fresh and relaxing experience. Our sauna is designed with proper ventilation and airflow, replicating an authentic Finnish sauna environment, and preventing it from becoming stuffy. For hygiene purposes, all guests must sit on a towel during their session.
Location & Parking
We are located at the right of the entrance to The Warren’s main beach. The easiest way to find us is WhatThreeWords (///typically.orbit.pavement). Please do not follow the postcodes as they do not show an accurate pinpoint location. From The Warren's visitor car park, walk to the main beach entrance and turn right. You’ll see us directly ahead. We are about a 3-minute walk from the car park.
Bus
The Warren is accessible by local bus services travelling between Abersoch and Pwllheli. The nearest bus stop is opposite the entrance to the Warren and is served by Bus 18, which connects Pwllheli to Abersoch. From Abersoch village, The Warren is a short 5-minute taxi ride or a pleasant 30-minute walk.
Train
The nearest train station is Pwllheli, which connects to the national rail network. From Pwllheli station, you can take Bus 18 to Abersoch or arrange a taxi directly to The Warren, approximately a 15-minute drive away.
If you’re walking or cycling, follow local footpaths and cycle routes for a safe and scenic journey. We recommend bringing a torch after sunset, especially in less populated areas.
Our saunas are always staffed, so no keys / codes are needed to gain access to the saunas. You'll be welcomed and briefed by a staff member on site upon your arrival. When you arrive, our staff member will ask to see your booking confirmation (on your phone is fine) or need a form of ID to find you on our system. They will guide you where to go and answer any questions you have.
Free parking is available for Sawna Porth Poeth customers at The Warren’s visitor car park for the duration of your session on a first-come, first-served basis. Alternative parking can be found on the main road near Fach Farm Caravan Park. Please note this is approximately a 15–20 minute walk to the sauna, either along the road or the beach, so be sure to allow plenty of time to get to your session.
The car parks can be busy during peak times so ensure you allow enough time before your booking to find parking; arriving late to your session will shorten the duration of your experience.
